My capstone project is about computer programming and how the overwhelming number of computer languages leads to problems in programming, such as converting a program's code from one language to another. The errors that arise from mistakes in programming like this can not only be an annoyance for consumers, which leads to dissatisfaction and lowering of sales, but they can lead to critical failure at important moments, such as the failure of the autopilot of an airplane leading to a plane crash.
I plan on creating a readily accessible website that is a directory of efficient languages and compilers used to translate code from one coding language to another. A directory of standardized languages will ease the creation of new programs and the compilers will enable computer programmers to easily translate an original program into a new workable program in a different coding language without having to recreate the program from scratch in the new language or spend time hunting down a compiler for translating the specific languages that the programmer is using.
As I plan to study computer science and become a programmer, my project will help me learn more about my chosen field and will help me later on down the line when I need to create and translate code myself. In regards to Richland's triple bottom line, my project will not negatively affect the environment in any way.
